![]() POA = POI (bullet impacts on the top of the front sight blade) works best for most other kinds of shooting. If you change the target or you change the distance it no longer works. The problem is this only works at the distance you have the gun zeroed for, and only with the bullseye target you zeroed the gun for. Side to side is easy to see because the circle won't be sitting centered nicely on top of your front sight. Up and down is easy to see because you'll see a gap, or you'll see more black on the target being covered. You use pumpkin on post because it makes it easy to center your aim vertically and horizontally - the center of your front sight blade just kisses the lowest point of the black center. If you try to have POA = POI on a bullseye pistol, you'll have a hard time aiming precisely because the blacked out sights get lost inside of the black out center of the target. ![]() In a bullseye match you have a black center surrounded by white outer rings, and you shoot with entirely blacked out sights. Pumpkin on post is the only way to shoot for bullseye matches, but it's a terrible way to shoot for anything else.
